The Diamond Review
The Society’s report, led by Professor Robin Williams FLSW, was submitted to the Welsh Government Review Panel on 8 January. The Society was invited to attend the Review Panel on 22 January to speak to the submission and provide additional evidence. The President, the Chief Executive and Professor Robin Williams attended.
The Society’s submission highlighted the importance of providing adequate support for all Welsh-domiciled students wherever they choose to study, while tackling the historical under-funding of the Welsh HE sector. In the interest of equity, the Society proposed that the fee grant support should be confined to those most in need. Such funds as would be released under this proposal, would be available to provide direct funding to universities in Wales, to help reduce the funding gap.
The Diamond Panel responded very positively to the Society’s submission and subsequent feedback from HEFCW and Welsh Government indicated that it had been well received.
