140 Years of Legends at Bangor University: Arthurian and Celtic Collections, Scholarship and the Community’ is a joint university and community event in the 140th anniversary Bangor University series.

Sponsored by Bangor University and the Learned Society of Wales, and organised by the University’s Centre for Arthurian Studies, the event celebrates the relationship between Bangor University’s Archives and Special Collections and the role played by Arthurian and Celtic Studies books and scholarship in building the university’s international reputation in these fields of study. The event will showcase, as well, Bangor University’s work in and for the community, particularly in maintaining interest in the legends in Wales and in the world.

The event will include brief presentations about the history of the collections, specifically the role played by local donors in enhancing the Welsh and Arthurian collections; a performance by local storyteller Gillian Brownson, local storyteller and performance artist, with pupils from a local primary school developed during the Bangor Fund -Vice-Chancellor’s initiative exhibition project ‘Home is Where the Legends Are’; live painting of the performance by Dr Maria Hayes, fine artist; an introduction to the research impact arising from the Centre for Arthurian Studies in the local community by Prof. Raluca Radulescu, Director of the Centre; and an introduction to the history of Welsh and Arthurian Studies at Bangor University by Dr Aled Llion Jones, co-Director of the same Centre and Head of the School of Welsh and Celtic Studies.
