Date: 5 February 2025, 11:00-15:00
Location: Wrexham and Online
The Learned Society of Wales is gathering experts from across sectors to form an Expert Forum on Disability in Wales. We are delighted to partner with Wrexham University to host the event.
The Expert Forum will bring together members of our Early-Career Researchers Network with representatives from Welsh and UK governments, industry, and the third sector. The Expert Forum will include quickfire talks, discussion sessions and networking. The forum will be followed by the publication of a public-facing report and factsheet. This is an opportunity for ECRs to create impact and develop policy engagement skills.
Bursaries are available to support in-person attendance. Online attendance is also available to support those who might be unable to travel.
If you are an ECR in Wales and researching disability from any discipline or sector, please submit your expression of interest via our online form by 8 January 2025, 4pm.
Selection criteria
Numbers will be limited, so participants will be selected based on:
- relevance of expertise to the topic of the meeting,
- ability to communicate effectively with non-academic stakeholders,
- balance: discipline, institution, geography, diversity.
We do not expect participants to be able to demonstrate expertise across this broad theme in its entirety; rather, each participant will bring one angle of expertise to the discussion, which together will combine to form a more complete picture to inform future policymaking and research. Specific topics of discussion will be informed by suggestions submitted through the expression of interest form, as well as through discussions with the invited policymakers.
Outcomes
Intended outcomes from the forum include:
- Key policymakers are informed of the cutting edge and remaining gaps in research and innovation, and use this knowledge to shape evidence-based decision-making.
- Participants from industry and academia are informed of recent and upcoming policy direction, to inform potential future research questions, applications, and dissemination.
- All participants have the opportunity to network, with strong potential for spin-out collaboration.
- The report and factsheet to be published by LSW with key evidence gathered during the forum will serve as an invaluable briefing for ongoing intersectoral conversations.
