Call for Applications: Advisory Group for Researcher Development 2024-2027

We are currently inviting applications for our Advisory Group for Researcher Development 2024-2027.

We are seeking at least four early and mid-career researchers to collaborate with four Fellows of the Learned Society of Wales to influence our programme of activities for researchers in Wales. This is a chance for you to enhance your leadership abilities and take an active role in shaping a more inclusive and supportive research environment.

We welcome applications from researchers working with and outside academia. Members of our Early Career Researchers Network are encouraged to apply.

Deadline for Applications: 4pm, 8 November 2024

Please Note: The new vacancies for Fellows to become Advisory Group members will open before the end of 2024. Fellows will start their term in May 2025. These will be advertised in the Fellows Bulletin and LSW Newsletter.

The Advisory Group will consist of four Fellows of the Learned Society of Wales and at least four early- and mid- career researchers, based within Welsh organisations and institutions.

Members of the Advisory Group will attend online meetings every two months, expected to last 90 minutes. Before these meetings, you may be asked to review meeting agendas or other documents. During the meetings, you will be expected to participate in discussions about the Researcher Development team’s work. Additional meetings may be scheduled if your input is needed on urgent work, however, we will discuss this with you ahead of time.

Members of the Advisory Group are expected to serve as Ambassadors for the Researcher Development work, building connections between your organisation and the Society. Additionally, Members are expected to carry out their responsibilities with a high level of integrity and professionalism, in line with the values of the LSW Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion policy.

The first Advisory Group you are expected to attend will be held at the beginning of December 2024. The term of an Advisory Group member is two years, with a potential extension to three years.

Being a member of the Advisory Group will allow you to make a meaningful contribution to the Welsh research landscape, supporting researchers to maximise their potential and make Wales a great place to do research. In addition, you will have the opportunity to build new research networks with other researchers from across Wales, with Fellows of the Society and other stakeholders. This is also an opportunity for you to gain experience working on a committee and strengthen your leadership skills. One of the researchers will also be appointed the vice-chair, supporting the chair to deliver the Advisory Group meetings in accordance with the Advisory Group for Researcher Development Constitution and Terms of Reference.

We are currently seeking early and mid-career researchers to join our Advisory Group. Researchers are invited to self-identify and describe the career stage they are at in the application form. Researchers must be affiliated with a Welsh university or organisation, or have demonstrable experience and knowledge of the research sector in Wales. We welcome applicants from all disciplinary backgrounds and aim to create an Advisory Group that reflects the diversity of Wales.

ECR Network members are encouraged to apply!

Applications must be submitted via our online platform by 4pm on 8 November 2024.

At least four early and mid-career researchers will be selected to become members of the Advisory Group. We expect to notify applicants by the 18 November 2024.
