Professor Roger Falconer receives Chinese engineering honour

Professor Roger Falconer, Emeritus Professor of Water Management School of Engineering, Cardiff University and a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, was elected a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in the CAE’s biennial election in November 2019.

Roger was elected to the CAE in recognition of his ‘distinguished contributions to hydraulic engineering and to the promotion of China-UK exchanges and cooperation in the field’, work which he began in 1983. My His current collaborative projects are primarily with Hohai and Tsinghua universities.

‘I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity of working with a number of universities in China since my first visit to Tongji University, Shanghai, in 1983,” said Professor Falconer.

“I have learnt much from working with a wide range of Chinese academics and government researchers over the past 27 years and am honoured to have been elected recently as a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.”

Membership of the CAE is China’s highest academic title in engineering science and technology and is a lifelong honour, with election made by the existing members of the CAE.

Foreign members are non-Chinese citizens who are distinguished engineers recognised for their achievements.
