Learned Society of Wales Announces Departure of Chief Executive
The Learned Society of Wales today announced that Martin Pollard, Chief Executive, will leave the charity on 3rd December 2021. A search for a new Chief Executive will begin. The Learned Society of Wales will continue to focus on its schedule of events over the autumn and the annual process of electing its new Fellows and medallists.
Martin is leaving to take up a position as Chief Executive at the Primary Science Teaching Trust, which promotes excellence in science teaching across the UK.
Professor Hywel Thomas, President of the Learned Society of Wales, said: “We are sorry to see Martin leave but respect his decision to return to working within a schools’ context.
“Martin has led the organisation superbly over the past three years. His work on strategic development and our equality and diversity agenda, as well as driving our Early Career Research Network, has helped develop us.
“We are well placed to make the Learned Society of Wales a stronger and more respected voice in Welsh civic life. We wish Martin all the best in his new post.”
Martin said: “It has been a pleasure to work with our Fellows and our fantastic staff team, and I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to lead the Society in new directions. I look forward to seeing how my successor develops the Society’s vital work to harness excellence in learning.”
